The Science, Technology, and Innovation National Laboratory (STINL) has officially opened its doors today, marking a significant milestone in Cambodia’s drive toward industrial, scientific, and economic progress. As a key public administration institution, STINL is poised to play a transformative role in enhancing Cambodia’s global competitiveness, advancing its industrial sector, and fostering innovation.
During the inauguration, H.E. Hem Vanndy, Cambodia’s Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, underscored the pivotal role of STINL in supporting the country’s industrial and economic development. He highlighted the laboratory’s mission to ensure product quality and safety, bolster local industries, and drive innovation, which will be crucial for Cambodia’s growth both in domestic markets and for export.
Minister Vanndy stated, “With internationally recognized standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 and accreditations from Singapore and Australia, STINL significantly reduces the need for businesses to send products abroad for testing. This boosts efficiency, cuts costs, and elevates Cambodia’s competitiveness on the global stage.”
STINL’s reputation for excellence in product testing and analysis spans over three decades. By transitioning to a public administration institution on June 20, 2024, STINL has gained greater operational autonomy and flexibility, enabling it to expand and diversify its services. One of the key goals is to introduce testing for mechanical, electrical, and electronic products by 2025, broadening the laboratory’s scope and better supporting Cambodia’s evolving industrial needs.
Dr. Yuk Sokunsreiroat, CEO of STINL, expressed the laboratory’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development, stating, “With state-of-the-art technology and a highly skilled team, STINL is well-positioned to meet Cambodia’s growing industrial and scientific demands. Our mission is to drive innovation, elevate standards, and contribute to the country’s continued progress.”
STINL is accredited by renowned international bodies such as SAC-SINGLAS (Singapore) and NATA (Australia), enabling the laboratory to provide high-quality testing services across several sectors, including microbiological, food, water, and non-food product analysis. These services ensure that Cambodian industries meet stringent global standards and are better positioned in the international market.
As part of the inauguration celebrations, an open-house event was held, allowing stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, producers, and exporters, to experience STINL’s advanced testing services firsthand. This interactive session highlighted the laboratory’s cutting-edge technologies and its role in supporting Cambodia’s industrial transformation.
Minister Vanndy called for stronger collaboration between STINL and other regional and international laboratories to elevate Cambodia’s standing in the global testing and certification ecosystem. “Such partnerships will ensure that Cambodia’s testing services maintain high standards, consistency, and reliability, helping to build global trust in our results,” he emphasized.
STINL also introduced a new website as part of its commitment to digital transformation and promoting research and innovation. The site includes verify.gov.kh, a platform for quickly and reliably verifying test certificates. This tool is designed to enhance transparency and credibility, fostering greater confidence in Cambodia’s testing services both locally and internationally.
STINL’s long-term goal is to become a leading laboratory in Southeast Asia, driving quality testing and analysis to help industries and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) compete effectively on both national and global stages. By providing cutting-edge services and fostering innovation, STINL is positioning itself as a key enabler of Cambodia’s future industrial and economic success.
The inauguration of STINL represents a major step forward for Cambodia in its mission to build a robust, competitive industrial sector supported by scientific and technological innovation. As STINL expands its services and strengthens its global collaborations, it will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the future of Cambodia’s economy. The laboratory’s commitment to quality, innovation, and transparency ensures that it will be an invaluable asset in driving Cambodia’s industrial and scientific advancement, both within the region and beyond.
